Product Description

Developed by an avian nutritionist, Emeraid Psittacine is the first elemental diet designed for the critically ill grain-eating bird.

Recommended Use

Emeraid Psittacine is designed to meet the metabolic needs of critically ill birds such as psittacines, finches, and frugivores. This diet may be fed as a sole or partial source of nutrition, however Emeraid is low in fiber and should not be fed for more than 7 days.

Although individualized care and clinical judgment is crucial to enhance treatment success, Emeraid Psittacine is designed for twice daily gavage feeding.

Feeding Directions

• In the adult bird, crop volume may be estimated as 50 ml/kg. In the debilitated bird, it is prudent to administer no more than one-third to one-half of estimated crop volume for the first feeding. Increase the volume fed over two to three feedings.
• The smallest tubes that may be used reliably to feed Emeraid Psittacine are the 16 gauge stainless steel feeding needle and the 5 French red rubber catheter.
1. Ideally formula should be prepared immediately before feeding and no more than 30 minutes before feeding. Reheating is not advised.
2. Measure one level scoop of powder (equivalent to 10 grams). Do not pack powder. Then shake powder.
3. Add 10 ml of water (105-110°F or 41-43°C)
4. Shake mixture vigorously.
5. Keep feeding tube and syringe containing formula in warm water until ready to feed.
6. Do not load feeding tube with formula until immediately before feeding.
