Lafeber Company Student Program

Lafeber Company supports the growth of zoological medicine in veterinary schools.

Reduced cost food program

  • Students, interns, and residents order products through the student representative(s).
  • Orders are made on a monthly basis.
  • Mail the order form and pre-paid checks to Lafeber Company to the attention of Kathy Moore at Lafeber Company 24981 North 1400 East Road Cornell Illinois 61319.
  • The number of items that may be ordered per person is limited to four (4).
  • Lafeber Company retail prices are reduced by 75% per item.
  • Products may be used for personal pets or as part of club fundraising efforts.
  • Exception: Emeraid is not a retail product, and all formulas are sold at regular price. Lafeber Company discourages use of Emeraid formulas for student fund-raising.
  • Reselling of product by individual students is strictly prohibited and will result in discontinuation of sales.
  • Products are shipped in bulk to the college and distributed by the student representative.
  • Shipping costs ($0.30/lb per item) are included in all prices.
  • Note: Excluding interns and residents, faculty members are encouraged to check out LafeberVet’s online store or call 1.800.842.6445 to purchase products at regular retail prices.

Product will also be sent to the teaching hospital for care of in-house patients.

  • The teaching hospital will receive an annual credit of $500 for product and shipping costs.
  • The student representative will take a monthly order.
  • Products are not to be resold. Abuse of this program could result in program discontinuation.
  • The $500 credit renews at the beginning of each school year. The amount of money spent will not affect the annual credit renewal, and credit balance will never exceed $500.

Sponsorship of the college’s exotics club

  • Lafeber Company will pay for a speaker to visit the institution annually.
  • Lafeber will reimburse the club for food/drink expenses for one meeting per year (up to $500).
  • Reimbursement for club expenses will require a copy of receipts as well as photo(s) of the speaker’s visit. Whenever possible reimbursement will be paid in the form of one check.
  • Student representative(s) will coordinate sponsorship.
  • The club is encouraged to solicit or suggest specific speakers. Student requests are reviewed on a “rolling basis” evaluating need, cost, relativity, and outreach benefit (see Item 6 on Page 2).

Student representative compensation

  • The representative position pays $60 per month.
    • A short monthly report of tasks completed is required. The report must be signed by the exotics club faculty advisor or alternatively it may be emailed directly by the faculty advisor. Reports must be received within 3 months. For instance, a report dated September 2010 must be received by December 31, 2010.
  • Co-representatives will share the pay.
  • Replacement of lost checks will require a $5 re-issue fee.

All programs will be evaluated regularly and are subject to change.

Student representative duties

  1. Collect monthly orders from students, interns & residents (up to 4 items per person) (“Order food for your bird by the 23rd”).
    • Complete the order form available at http://lafebervet.com/student/.
    • Print a copy of the order form. Mail the form with pre-paid checks postmarked by the last week of each month to:

    • Products are shipped in bulk and distributed by the student representative(s)
  2. Collect monthly order from zoological medicine service using an annual credit of $500.
  3. Coordinate Lafeber Company sponsorship of the school’s exotics club
    • Lafeber pays for food for one meeting per year (up to $500). Reimbursement for club expenses will require a copy of food/drink receipt(s) and at least 2-3 high quality digital photograph(s) of the speaker’s visit. Whenever possible reimbursement will be paid in the form of one check. See www.lafebervet.com/lafeber-company-veterinary-student-program/ for examples of acceptable photos.
    • Lafeber pays for a speaker to visit your institution annually.
    • Submit suggestions for speakers that would be well received at your institution. Lafeber Company would prefer to sponsor regional speakers as opposed to individuals that live far away.
  4. Distribute Lafeber Company brochures and provide samples at school continuing education events.
  5. Send a signed, brief monthly report on Student Program activities to Christal Pollock at LafeberStudents@mac.com Receipt of this report is necessary for compensation. Co-representatives will share the pay.
  6. Let Lafeber Company know how it can best meet student needs. Representatives may request funding for additional events. Be sure to provide details on the event (who, what, when, where, and how much money is need). Lafeber Company will be most likely to support events that impact a wide variety of individuals including students, faculty, veterinary technicians, and visiting veterinary health care professionals.
